Pastor's Bible Study

The Pastor's Bible Study meets most Mondays at 7:00 pm in the Church Library (see the calendar for more details) and is facilitated by the pastor, Chris Brown. The group follows the passages of scripture on the Revised Common Lectionary. Prayer Warriors

The Prayer Warriors is a small group of women who meet at a local restaurant on the second Tuesday of each month to share prayer concerns and to offer prayer and support. 

United Methodist Women Circles

Wheeler UMC offers two small group United Methodist Women Circles: The Susanna Wesley Circle and the Alice Lee Barnes Circle. These small groups meet at different times throughout the month and are mission and service driven. The UMW unit as a whole meets once a month in the library for a devotion and to discuss business. The big annual fundraiser for UMW is the Yard Sale held each April. All women of the church are invited to attend. 

United Methodist Men

The United Methodist Men meet every 4th Sunday of the month for breakfast in the Family Life Center at 8:00am. The group has a devotion and helps to fund and support projects and ministries and missions of the church. All men are invited to attend. Two of their annual fundraisers are the Bluegrass Banquet and the Valentine's Day Banquet in which a sizeable number of the proceeds they give to the Building Fund. 

Wheeler Kids

In addition to Sunday morning opportunities for kids, there are various opportunities and ministries for children throughout the year such as a spring party to learn about the story of Easter, Vacation Bible School in June and mission projects designed for kids. Wheeler Youth

In addition to the youth Sunday School class, the youth group at Wheeler is an active group of both middle and high scool students. They meet regularly (usually once or twice a month) on Sunday Evenings and for other fellowship opporutnities that are planned by the Youth Ministry Team. The three big events for the Youth each year is A.) Youth Mission Trip - through Appalachia Service Project; B.) Fire on the Mountain - a retreat designed specifically for the Wheeler Youth Group in October or November; C.) Resurrection - A Holston Conference Youth Gathering in Gatlinburg, Tennessee each January. 

 

 Sunday Morning Groups (Sunday School)

10:00 am each Sunday. Donuts and Coffee are provided in the Family Life Center at 9:45 am each week. Join us for a time of fellowship.

 Agape Class
We offer a lecture and discussion format of warmth, humor, and 
pragmatism that serves those 50 years old and above. The class focuses on International Sunday School Lessons and Bible Study. The class hosts a quarterly benefit breakfast for the church and supports Greystone Nursing Home Bingo. The class sponsors are Robert Helvey and Walter Van Huss. 
 
College Class
This class for young adults meets in the recently young adult classroom. This topics and discussions of the class are geared specifically toward college age and young adult age persons. These topics range from living out faith in life applications to a look at Biblical teachings in a modern world. The class sponsor is Scott Cunningham 
 
Young Families Class
This is one of the newer small groups in the church and is composed mainly of young families with children and single young adults. It is primarily discussion based on special topics or Bible study relevant to the age group. They meet at 10am in the Parlor.  The class sponsor is Pastor Chris. 
 
 
The Confirmation Class
Confirmation is designed for youth in the 6th grade (and youth in 7th grade and above who have not yet had confirmation) who desire an interest in becoming professing members of the church. This class may meet on Sunday mornings or at another time. Contact Pastor Chris for more information. 
 
Fellowship Class
This class is informal and meets in the Family Life Center during the Sunday School hour for fellowship. Joan Sinn is the contact person for this group.  
 
Donna Palmer New Communicators Class
The New Communicators Class uses nontraditional literature that is interesting, humorous at times, current, and Biblically based. The format is discussion and 
occasional chaos. The class will often have discussions related to events that occur in our world, community, and families. It is informal and all opinions are encouraged, valued, and respected. This class has no specific criteria regarding age, gender, or marital status. It is an eclectic group focused on being a Christian in an ever changing, modern world. 
 
The Preschool Class
The Preschool Class meets in the children's wing of the church. The class is sponsored by a rotation of teachers.
 
The K-2 Class
The K-2 class is for elementary age school children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The children are taught stories and lessons from the Bible. The class meets in the children's wing. The class sponsor is Emily Harding.
 
The 3-5 Class
The 3-5 Class is for elementary age school children from 3rd-5th grade. The children are taught stories and lessons from the Bible with time for discussion. The class meets in the children's wing. The class sponsor is Suzanne Brown.

Pavior Class
The Pavior Class is a lecture and discussion based Sunday School class designed for persons ages 60 to 90. The class relies on 100% participation and is very supportive of the church and each other. Every member of the Pavior Class is encouraged to be very involved in church and community activities and outreach programs. In 2013, a longtime Sunday School Class called the Asbury Class joined with the Pavior Class. 
 
The Youth Class
The Youth Class is for ages 7th-12th Grade and it meets in the Youth Room. Longtime class teacher, Gary Palmer, is the class sponsor and the topics range from current events, to issues relating to youth, and topics covering stories and lessons from the Bible.
 
Seekers Class
The Seekers Class is an adult Bible Study for all ages that welcomes opinions while studying the Bible in a discussion format. The class sponsors are Mike Ketron
